GEM has taken the road less traveled to get from a farm in Australia to being featured by Billboard Magazine in their September Grammy Awards edition. 2019 has certainly proved to be her year and it’s only looking up from here. When the Whites Turn Red is the debut EP from songwriting musician and producer Anto Baharian, better known as Midnight Mother. Born of a passion for raw expression and music, his project defies genres and norms with a seamless blend of organic and electronic elements. Sonically, the EP is as big and dynamic as a full band, but as personal and detailed as a fully electronic production. The EP features crashing drums and grungy guitars reminiscent of the 90’s transported into the future with unexpected synth textures and hypnotizing rhythms that lie beneath. On the stand out single “She Shifted,” drowned out vocals courtesy of Salpy bring another level of humanity to the mostly instrumental EP, performed and recorded entirely by Baharian himself. Check out When the Whites Turn Red on all major streaming platforms, and look out for more from Midnight Mother coming soon!

23 years, 9 studio albums, 10 EPs, and countless shows. That’s how long the duo of MC Sean Daley and DJ Anthony Davis (we know them better as Slug and Ant) have been making music as Atmosphere. The hallmark of a true MC is one who knows how to clutch the crowd in their hand like so many clutch their mic, and even after 23 years – the Rhymesayers label boss remains the consummate professional in that regard, deftly straddling the line between sage lyricism and sycophantic braggadocio. Together with Ant’s brooding yet buoyant production style, the sold out crowd at Mission Ballroom last Friday was treated to a sonic jaunt through the group’s history, dropping gems from their many classics including God Loves Ugly and Sevens Travels all the way through their latest release Mi Vida Local. This epic performance (preceded by the same from opener Brother Ali) was not one likely to soon be forgotten. Check out the photo recap courtesy of Adrian Garcia below! – Kevin Lucas
Woman refuses to pay $80 dollar ticket, then refuses to be arrested, and then drives away. Completely incapable of understanding she might be in the wrong, constantly outraged at anyone who even dares suggesting she might be wrong. We’ve been wondering for years how to deal with her. She could have avoided all of this if she could have simply accepted the ticket.

Hip Hop Artist Richard Ennis, AKA Trippy Trip, dropped his new album titled “The Interview” earlier this year. The project features 13 tracks, “Chill”, “Best Friend”, and “Ordinary” are a few of our favs. Hailing form from South Jersey the humble rapper classifies his music to be conscious hip hop. He writes to inspire others and because he loves the culture of hip hop immensely. Don’t let his name, Trippy Trip, fool you; Rich strongly advocates for a drug free and positive life. His example and music are both definitely inspirational and “The Interview” doesn’t disappoint. Check it out below and make sure to give Rich a follow here: @trippy156
