Hailing from one of America’s most dangerous and forgotten neighborhoods, New Orleans’ 7th Ward, SuicideboyS have been taking the nation by storm. They only recently got on our radar after word spread of the duo quickly selling out large auditoriums around the country, something you don’t see all that often from independent artists. We had to see what the hype was all about. Their music has hardcore rap vibes with heavy bass and unexpected samples that both rappers really work well with. We’ve seen a lot of sold out shows, but to say the $uicideboy$ concert at The Fillmore was packed, would be a massive understatement. On either side people were practically being pushed off the railings to get a view, and in the center of the venue (for anyone brave enough to enter) there was a full blown mosh pit that could rival any metal show.

Several of the label mates have teamed up for a North American tour headlined by multidisciplinary artist and self proclaimed electric sorceress Huxley Anne, who’s been gaining popularity over the last year since the release of her debut album Ilium in 2017.
Australian bass music producer Zeke Beats is truly in a lane of his own, drawing from hip hop, trap, dubstep, and just about any other genre you can imagine. His dynamic music is both accessible and unpredictable with hard hitting drums and crisp synths at the forefront of his productions. With an impressive resume of DMC and other competition wins under his belt Zeke incorporates a mastery of true turntablism into an arena where the once fundamental Technics 1200 has become foriegn technology to most DJ’s. While his skill set may be rooted in past tradition, his music and sound is still far ahead of its time.
Future Funk collective Lettuce has been building a dedicated fanbase for the past few years doing headline shows and festivals around the country. On the heels of their 2017 release Witches Stew (a tribute to Miles Davis,) they are headed to Colorado for another round of Dead Rocks.

This year’s 420 in Denver may have been the livest yet. Big name national talent could be found at every venue in the city, and we were lucky enough to host the inaugural 420 On The Block, a musical celebration of our favorite plant featuring an awesome spectrum of local and national acts from all genres including headliners Action Bronson, Break Science (Live Band,) and Matisyahu. The weather was far from perfect, but a little cold and a few clouds has never stopped the party in Colorado, especially not on the high holiday! Enthusiastic fans enjoyed the well curated vendor booths, food trucks and activities, and of course the music.
When jazz legend Milton “Mezz” Mezzrow took the journey from Chicago to Harlem, he brought with him a lifestyle that would surpass his living legend. A staple at jam sessions of the Harlem Renaissance, Mezzrow became known for having the most potent cannabis the artist community had ever experienced. In fact, his name, “Mezz”, would become synonymous with the high-grade experience, carrying on to the new evolution of cannabis culture, with Mezz Brands. Now the brand is taking over BETA Nightclub for two days of massive 4/20 programming and the launch of the latest formulations crafted by Evolab, with soundtracking by NERO live.

April 20th has long been the day that weed smokers around the country (and world) come out of hiding to celebrate our favorite plant, puff tough, and let the government know that there are millions of otherwise law-abiding citizens who use cannabis. Ever since legalizing recreational use in 2012, Denver has become the epicenter of the celebration as host to several full on festivals, as well as a barrage of concerts around the city the entire weekend. While it would be impossible to hit every show that’s going down, we’re sure as hell going to try. Check out our weekend preview of the events we’re looking forward to the most, listed chronologically.
Last week, UK based production/DJ duo Stööki Sound took over The Black Box, one of Denver’s premier venues to catch up and coming electronic music. With their immaculate blend of genres ranging from Trap to Hip Hop, to UK bass, the London duo threw down an energetic set that had the crowd turned all the way up, even moshing at times. G-Eazy has risen from relative obscurity to super stardom in a short time and he shows no signs of stopping. The Bay Area rapper’s hit song “Him & I,” featuring Halsey has been on Billboard’s hot 100 for 12 weeks now, and it’s in heavy rotation at radio stations around the country. We caught the Denver stop of his The Beautiful & Damned Tour w/ Phora & Trippie Redd at 1st Bank Center, where the 28 year old MC performed to a packed house. Enjoying A1 stage production and G-Eazy’s signature crystal clear vocals, the crowd sang along to all the hits, and the young artist reminded everyone why he’s one of the most popular rappers out right now. Our boy Blake Jackson captured some of the magic, check it out!
Fans of Stööki Sound can rejoice, as the talented duo is back in full swing with some upcoming shows and the announcement of “Stööki Sunday’s,” a weekly music release that will incorporate fan voting as well as some choice cuts picked by Stööki themselves. To set off the series is the fourth installment of their Legacy Mix series aptly titled Legacy IV. We’re feeling this exciting blend of bass music, hip hop, trap and more peppered with some exclusive edits and mash-ups.
