Montreal based DJ/Producer Lunice is one of the music industries best kept secrets. While his accolades as a record producer, and member of duo TNGHT are more than extensive, he maintains a relative level of relative anonymity in the public eye as a solo act. His talent stretches from production and DJing, to dancing and performance art, and everything in between, and he’s earned the respect of many of the top names in music throughout his career. He’s finally getting more and more attention with his genre bending style that draws heavily from hip hop and trap roots. With intricate textures and some of the snappiest drums you’ve heard, Lunice has honed a razor sharp, and often dark sound that is both entrancing and unpredictable. This rising star is constantly in the studio, but he’s doing a limited run of a few North American dates that includes a headline appearance at Denver’s award-winning venue, The Black Box, on Feb 28th!

Bubblin’ from his recent Grammy win, Anderson .Paak tore the roof off a sold out Fillmore in Denver on Wednesday night. From silk screens to smoke blasts, the visual energy of Cheeky Andy’s Beach Club Tour matched the famously infectious Paak and the Free Nationals. The set list revolved around Oxnard, with a generous heap of hits from Venice and Malibu peppered in throughout. Paak was all over the place in the best way; whether he was crowd surfing, ripping the drum set to shreds, or dancing from one end of the stage to the other, he never missed a note or a step. The crowd adoringly matched his every word, “yes lawd!”s screamed regularly in exuberance. It felt like something of a victory lap for Paak, who after years of underground acclaim, is now indisputably a superstar.
Shouts out to opener Tayla Parx who should’ve gotten more love for her amazing set. Check out the photos below, captured by Blake Jackson.

He’s been growing ever since, gaining more acclaim last year as a standout XXL Freshmen in an era where true lyricism is continually overlooked. Late last year J.I.D. released an excellent sophomore album Dicaprio 2, which solidified his status as one of this generations brightest talents. J.I.D. is on the road in support of the album, and we caught his sold out performance at the intimate Fox Theatre in Boulder, CO, one of the cities lucky enough to catch the tour. The young artist delivered a stellar set, commanding the attention of every person in the packed room as he performed a barrage of new material, as well as a few choice cuts from his debut, The Never Story.
