Way before Drake shouted out Griselda Records in his now infamous Rap Radar interview, the Buffalo NY collective of Westside Gunn, Conway the Machine, and Benny the Butcher has been putting in work and garnering the respect of fans, critics, and artists alike. With a carefully curated aesthetic of super grimey beats, high fashion, raw content, and razor sharp bars, the crew has quickly gone from a boutique underground rap phenomenon to one of the most talked about movements in hip hop, hailed by many as the antithesis of the mumble rap sound that’s dominated the airwaves for the last several years. Now backed by Shady Records, and Roc Nation, Griselda is on their first major headlining national tour, and we were lucky enough to catch their performance at Summit Denver this week, where they performed slew of records from their various solo projects and crew compilations. Birdd Luciano – Ghetto Blessings (Album)
Birdd Luciano is a new voice emerging out of Chicago that is changing the energy within the city. After releasing his latest visual “Thoughts In My Head,” Birdd categorizes himself in an honorable class of rappers with his visuals totaling over 1 million combined views. Ghetto Blessings, sums up Birdd’s unique sound and diverse content, ranging from his hit single “Toxic Love,” Produced by Xcel, Thoughts In My Head to Top Shottas (Remix ft. HoodBrat) and more. Toxic Love is a catalyst track addressing relationship issues from the male perspective while Top Shottas shows a diverse flavor of Birdd’s versatility. Ghetto Blessings is an eclectic combination of producers Nate, Nefti, Xcel and Baron Galindo of story-telling fused with street music. Producer Gabrielle Watson, better known by her stage name A Hundred Drums, just released her debut album on Valentines day. The album is a self-titled, seven track offering that blends a wide array of genres and sounds into a cohesive and original soundscape that feels both ancient and futuristic. Listeners are sure to get lost in the web of intricate percussion rhythms and powerful synth voices that drive the project. The California native is currently residing in Denver, CO, revered by many as The Bass Capital, and we got a chance to talk to Gabrielle about the new EP as well as some other things she’s working on. Ro$ewood Renegade – Knockin
Ro$ewood Renegade, hailing from Austin, Texas is relying on his himself to get the next level. “Knockin” is a song about that exactly, as Renegade raps about Knocking on the music industries door. Previously Renegade and his brother Deezle started their own rap duo called ‘Double or Nuttin’, becoming local celebrities at school and in their neighborhood. He’s been working hard ever since that to grow as a solo artist and is taking hold of this moment to step into the spotlight. The Future of Cannabis: Black Market vs Legitimate Dispensaries
Marijuana is a projected 55 billion dollar industry that’s only available for adult use in just 11 states and medically legal in a little over half the country. Atlanta’s dynamic duo EarthGang have been on a roll for the last year or so and they show no signs of stopping. They had a few excellent contributions on Dreamville Records’ grammy nominated, certified gold album, Revenge of the Dreamers III, and their debut LP Mirrorland is a rock solid exhibition of their multidimensional talents. The two MC’s, Olu and WowGr8, are on a national tour to support the album along with Chicago great Mick Jenkins, and Portland’s up and comer Wynne. Their Feb 3rd appearance at Cervantes Ballroom in Denver marked EarthGang’s 11th consecutive sellout show on the tour, and we were lucky enough to experience the party. Their incredible performance lived up to high expectations, check out the photo recap below captured by our friend Blake Jackson. After this unforgettable show, we’re looking to forward to seeing what else EarthGang has in store for 2020.
