Ever since his departure from Degrassi over a decade ago, Drake has mostly stayed in his lane making music, and he’s done so very successfully. As of late though, he appears to be trying to diversify, popping up as Exective Prodcuer on Netflix’s revamped series Top Boy, and now he’s officially announced his newest venture. He announced via an instagram post that he’s joining the ranks of dozens of rappers starting their own cannabis brands. On theme with his repertoire the brand is called More Life Growth Co., and all we really know about it is that their green house looks dope as fuck. Check out the post below, we’re interested to see this unfold.
In 2019 the West Coast is littered with dispensaries of all sizes and styles, and major cities like Portland are especially saturated. It can be hard to find a shop with good prices as well as quality flower and concentrates, and many stores are plagued by uneducated or rude staff. Buried in the northeast corner of Portland, a short drive from downtown portland or PDX Airport stands one of the city’s many hidden gems, Doctor’s Orders Portland Dispensary, a modest independent shop that excels in all categories.
Famed West Coast Rapper and Oakland’s very own, Kamaiyah joined forces with Producer Link Up and Director WeThePartySean to release a reimagined version of the classic Warren G. & Michael McDonald anthem “Regulate/ Keep Forgettin” recorded, filmed, and released in 24 hours. Los Angeles based songwriter and performer Yan Pronin’s experimental brainchild, Project Pronin, has arrived with the brand new single “Release Me.” On this must-hear debut record, Yan strikes a delicate balance between crunchy analog sounds and modern production, with twisted guitar chords and riffs serving as the foundation for dynamic instrumentation that is masterfully sparse at times, and tastefully intricate at others. With help from Grammy award winning engineer Nico Essig (Lana Del Rey, Coldplay, Paul McCartney etc.) who mixed and mastered the song, “Release Me” draws subtle influence from legendary acts including Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Radiohead and others to capture a truly timeless sound rarely found in today’s era.
From the creators of Sonic Bloom, one of Colorado’s longest running summer music festivals, comes Sonic Blossom, it’s intimate, indoor, fall counterpart. Taking over Cervantes’ unrivaled dual venue set up in central Denver, the festival will encompass the same spirit of electronic and jam music one might expect from the Sonic Bloom family. Headlined by veteran ambient electronic producer Bluetech, with an all around awesome line-up that includes heavy hitter Spoonbill as well as CO favorites Dynohunter, and many other awesome acts. There should be an awesome mix of dancefloor bangers as well as chilled out vibes and everything in between. We got the chance to ask the headliner himself, Bluetech, about his current project and what we can expect to hear at Sonic Blossom tomorrow night. When the Whites Turn Red is the debut EP from songwriting musician and producer Anto Baharian, better known as Midnight Mother. Born of a passion for raw expression and music, his project defies genres and norms with a seamless blend of organic and electronic elements. Sonically, the EP is as big and dynamic as a full band, but as personal and detailed as a fully electronic production. The EP features crashing drums and grungy guitars reminiscent of the 90’s transported into the future with unexpected synth textures and hypnotizing rhythms that lie beneath. On the stand out single “She Shifted,” drowned out vocals courtesy of Salpy bring another level of humanity to the mostly instrumental EP, performed and recorded entirely by Baharian himself. Check out When the Whites Turn Red on all major streaming platforms, and look out for more from Midnight Mother coming soon!
23 years, 9 studio albums, 10 EPs, and countless shows. That’s how long the duo of MC Sean Daley and DJ Anthony Davis (we know them better as Slug and Ant) have been making music as Atmosphere. The hallmark of a true MC is one who knows how to clutch the crowd in their hand like so many clutch their mic, and even after 23 years – the Rhymesayers label boss remains the consummate professional in that regard, deftly straddling the line between sage lyricism and sycophantic braggadocio. Together with Ant’s brooding yet buoyant production style, the sold out crowd at Mission Ballroom last Friday was treated to a sonic jaunt through the group’s history, dropping gems from their many classics including God Loves Ugly and Sevens Travels all the way through their latest release Mi Vida Local. This epic performance (preceded by the same from opener Brother Ali) was not one likely to soon be forgotten. Check out the photo recap courtesy of Adrian Garcia below! – Kevin Lucas
