When we first saw that Roc Nations’s Rapsody and Rhymesayers Entertainment’s much talked about signee Sa-Roc were going on a US run together for Rap’s A Black Woman Created This tour, we were hype. Both artists have earned critical acclaim and respect from fans and piers alike, and it’s dope to see them join forces. We caught the Portland stop of the northwest leg of the tour at the charming Star Theater in the heart of the city.

Producer Gabrielle Watson, better known by her stage name A Hundred Drums, just released her debut album on Valentines day. The album is a self-titled, seven track offering that blends a wide array of genres and sounds into a cohesive and original soundscape that feels both ancient and futuristic. Atlanta’s dynamic duo EarthGang have been on a roll for the last year or so and they show no signs of stopping. They had a few excellent contributions on Dreamville Records’ grammy nominated, certified gold album, Revenge of the Dreamers III, and their debut LP Mirrorland is a rock solid exhibition of their multidimensional talents. The two MC’s, Olu and WowGr8, are on a national tour to support the album along with Chicago great Mick Jenkins, and Portland’s up and comer Wynne. Their Feb 3rd appearance at Cervantes Ballroom in Denver marked EarthGang’s 11th consecutive sellout show on the tour, and we were lucky enough to experience the party. Pop duo N2BLÜ is the brainchild of New Orleans singer/songwriter Jonathan Arceneaux and Russian born producer Konstantin Smorodnikov. They’re back with a brand new song, “Match My Crazy.” On the track, Arceneaux makes light of his own relationship challenges and emotional struggles on this fun, edm influenced record that is aimed to fight stigmas surrounding mental health. We’ve been following EarthGang since we first heard their early single “Meditiate” Ft. J.I.D. back in 2017, shortly after they signed a deal with J.Cole’s Dreamville Records. They have been quietly paying dues for a few years now, but 2019 marked the beginning of their rapid ascension to being one of hip hop’s hottest and most respected acts.
