Producers Amani Friend and Treavor Moontribe have been releasing music as Desert Dwellers for over 20 years, and they continue to evolve. Their 2019 release Breath marked a slight departrure from their psychedellic bass roots, drawing influence from tribal beats and other genres previously untapped by the duo. In their tradition of collaboration and connection with others, they have handed the building blocks of of Breath over to 11 musical adepts from the realms of downtempo house and electronica for a scintillating new installment to their global music tale with Breath Reimagined, Volume 2. New York City’s famed producer/DJ Baauer has recently resurfaced in anticipation of his timely and aptly titled new album, Planet’s Mad. He’s released the first single, AETHER, along with an out of this world visual accompaniment. As unpredictable as ever, Baauer has once again evolved his sound on this highly energetic banger that fuses elements of trap, dubstep, and other bass music into a spaced out tune thats unlike anything else we’ve heard from the Harlem Shake producer. The digitally animated video is an interplanetary journey that features humans and array of alien characters escaping destruction and finding their way to the ultimate space refugee rager, DJ’d by none other than Baauer himself. This one definitely has us excited for the full album, and hopefully a national tour, whenevter our own planet reopens.
Detroit’s EDM producer and singer Los Rell is back with a seductive new single, “Spell on Me.” Los walks a fine line between dance music, pop, and modern R&B on this enchanted record that features hypnotizing rhythms and bouncy instrumentation topped by Los’s smooth autotuned vocals. Multitalented rapper, producer, and prolific weed smoker ShoTunez returns with another full length LP, “The Pif Trap.” The 10 track LP is another ode to our favorite plant. As Sho states on the opening banger “UPPP,” he’s “never coming down.” With hard hitting drums and heavy bass, this EDM/hip hop fusion album is built to be played in a proper sound system. Producer Gabrielle Watson, better known by her stage name A Hundred Drums, just released her debut album on Valentines day. Eric State is an exciting, energetic DJ hailing from the Netherlands. Eric, who specializes in vocally supported electronic dance music with a feel-good vibe, dug deep into his crate to find an original 1994 recording of ‘Somebody Real’ by Bit Machine and made it his own now, with his second release ‘Somebody Real’.
Beginning Friday, November 15th renowned dubstep icon Caspa will begin a five-week residency at The Black Box in Denver. Each Friday the London-born producer will curate an impressive array of international talent, playing sets that bridge his decades-spanning catalogue. Dubbed “Back to the Underground” the events will showcase and celebrate a range of artists who have continued to forward the culture. Genre mainstays including Coki, Hatcha, Matty G, Sleeper, Six Chakra, Ternion Sound, and Pushloop will all make appearances between November and December. Caspa has been tremendously influential in the classic UK sound. His decision to make Colorado a temporary home-base should be an exciting opportunity for all lovers of bass music.
